Splints and braces can optimise your recovery and
help you feel more comfortable on your feet.
To complement your orthotics and as part of your treatment plan, we have an extensive range of braces and splints to optimise your recovery. These are used to treat and rehabilitate muscular and sports injuries, as well as a variety of pathologies that affect the foot, ankle and knee.
Each brace and splint serves a particular function that will allow an injury to heal, such as keeping the foot in a position that will minimise the strain on an injured structure. Because we are on our feet all day every day, it can be difficult to completely rest the foot, even if it’s in the best interest for optimal healing and repair.
Often, a brace may be used to temporarily alleviate strain away from an injured site or limit painful movement until a custom orthotic has been created, and can continue to be worn when you’re unable to wear your orthotics.
We understand that even when injured, we still need to work and be able to complete our daily activities, where possible. This is where bracing and splinting are a great option to facilitate healing without interfering with our quality of life, like plaster casting can, while we continue to ambulate.
Why it’s important to get the right brace for you
We offer a wide range of braces and splints because it’s important to get the right one for you. As well as serving particular functions, these devices can also have different characteristics which can make your recovery easier or more difficult. The same device can come in different lengths, weights and flexibility levels, to name a few characteristics. When choosing the right device for you, we consider all of your complex needs and lifestyle to get you the best-suited device. This is very different from a one-size-fits-all device you can purchase from the pharmacy, for example. We are also able to make adjustments to these devices where necessary or beneficial to you. By getting the right device, you feel more comfortable and stable throughout your recovery.
Splints and braces are also able to prevent and minimise the risk of future injuries
We also stock a wide selection of pads and props to help with cushioning, shock absorption, protection and support for damaged, tired or misaligned foot structures. We understand that with pathologies, injury and ageing, comes the need for additional support and protection. Changes to the foot/toe shape and alignment over time can also make it very difficult to comfortable wear shoes without rubbing and pain. We are well-equipped with the right pads and props to give you back the ability to walk and wear footwear as comfortably as possible.
Each brace, splint and pad is professionally fitted by our podiatry team to ensure correct and effective functioning. We use these for:
- Ankle instability
- Toe deformities such as hammertoes
- Foot drop
